Bottom line is I played BF2 @ 1280x1024 2xAA butter smooth, 1920x1200 2xAA w/ 1xGTXKO not so smooth, 1920x1200 2xAA w/ 2x GTCO same feeling and similar fps.

Dude-"load balancing" is only in effect for SFR games? SFR gives less benefit?

You are just wrong here, you really shouldn't post this stuff.

Okay, thanks for telling me that I am "Wrong" and "I shouldn't post here".
I am speaking from my first-hand experience, and I don't think judge me on that.

Arrg.

Toatett- nothing against you, but if 7800GT doesn't seem "worth it" to you you're a. playing only cpu limited games b. playing at too low a res to notice c. have something borked

Here, s some Battlefield 2 since you brought it up?

The truth

Look at the Battlefield 2 graph for the single 6800Ultra Toatett. 12X9 2X, High AF- see how often it's below 40fps?

Now look at the 6800U SLI graph Toatett. 16X12 2X High AF. See how it's hardly ever below 40fps?

This directly contradicts you Toatett. Should we believe you or HardOCP? I can recreate their results, and you could to. (assuming nothing is wrong with your pc)

Higher minimum fps is one of the MAIN benefits of SLI Toatett. It's too bad you went to all the expense to own it and apparently don't even know what it's giving you. :(

I have seen those benchmarks, in fact, I upgrade to the 7800GTs SLI because I have seen those benchmark believing SLI was the way too go.
I was finding BF2 performance less than ideal with a 7800GTXKO right after I upgraded to a 2405fpw from a 19" CRT.
However, after the system was up and running, it was nothing but disappointment.
Fps drops immediately to low 30 after tossing a smoke grenade in 16 player small map single player game.
Surely, I think there was a few fps improvment of the new SLI setup vs. the single high clocked GTX, but it was not significant
Getting into a middle of big multiplayer fight with heavy gun fire around stress the system even more, and it's able to bring this supposely mighty SLI system down to under 30fps.
Apparently, HardOCP was testing BF2, but it was testing it in a much less stressful environment.

I have tried many other games and I had to conclude that
The smooth part of the game get smoother but un-noticable. (e.g 60fps vs. 100fps)
The laggy part of the game get a little smoother but still noticeably slower. (e.g 25fps vs. 30fps)

So it's your argument that because you can find a situation that tanks the cards SLI "just isn't worth it"?

I see.

I guess I'll haqve to qualify future statements to "SLI roxorz boxorz, unless Toatett is wearing them".

I don't know where I can go from what you said Toatett. It doesn't make much sense, I think you need to sell your second card and unburden yourself.

Maybe I am expecting too much from SLI.

I think I don't mind spending $$ on computer hardware as long as it gives me the faster, smoother feel in games.
However, in this case, I am not liking SLI because I spent the $ and I see zero differences.

You've got to rememeber you stepped down a grade in cards too, if you went from one KO to two, or one 6800GT to two, it would have been more apparent, IMO.

That having to pay $20 for shipping and Ebay ads to sell two cards instead of $10 to sell one is some pathetic little amount of money that doesn't even deserve consideration when you're talking about boosting your framerate 30-100%?

I think I understand that pretty well, but I'd agree with you, if you actually have to think about maybe wasting an extra $10 on shipping cards you're probably not a SLI candidate.

I said "I don't understand" the "I have to sell two cards vs one!" argument because it's so trifling and ludicrous, not because I don't comprehend then ramifications.

No you simply don't understand that you are not the only person on the planet, and that there are other things that might motivate people other than what is apparant to you. I simply posted what would motivate me to buy a more powerful solution than I already have. Obviously if I'm running an 800XL and not a 7800 I'm probably not going to throw even more money at an SLI rig right? I tend to buy a few steps behind cutting edge to get the most bang for my buck. by the time I'm looking to unload a single 7800 there's not going to be a great deal of interest in them. I have a pretty good deal set up in selling my existing cards *without* the need to waste any money on e-bay or anything else for that matter. Please keep your personal judgements about my, or anyone elses motivations to yourself. This is supposed to a tech forum, not a continuance of your afternoon group therapy session.
