What is so special about these new cases coming out for $150+?

Is it necessary to buy 1 of these cases if you plan on setting up an SLi config?

My current case appears that it would be efficient. Having 6 80mm case fans.

The only thing is to make sure the case can fit two cards in SLI because in some (or most) enclosures, the hard drives, or their rack, get in the way. For example, Cooler Master CM690 fits two 8800GTX cards in SLI and it isn't a $150+ case. Most enclosures can fit shorter cards such as the 8800GT in SLI.

I like SLI ceritfied memory, cause the memory sure knows when you run 2 video cards.

SLI certified power supplies and cases make sense to me, the rest doesn't.

Too bad they don't have different badging for different high-end cards. I would love to see a case with a "8800GTX SLI Certified" logo on the advertisement, just to let you know at a glance. Just saying that it's SLI certified is deceiving... I'm sure there's plenty of midtower 6800GT SLI-Certified cases around. :p

The same goes for power supplies, but then again, it's also subjective to the rest of your system. A 8800GT SLI-certified power supply that just BARELY makes it with a Core 2 Duo and 1 HDD may not be so lucky with a Core 2 Quad and 6+ HDDs.

yes i would reccomend an sli case antec 900 is the cheapest solution for nvidia anyways.

but as for your 6 80mm fans I have 2 front 2 side 2 back 1 top on my old thermal take laser case it does alright for one 8800gtx vid card but when i put 2 8800 gt's in it was a big difference in heat rise. even with the side off. put the same setup in a 8003bws thermaltake. and temps went down cards at load with fans at 75% hit 91c in crysis after 30 minutes.

I put zalman vf 1000 on both cards and now I only hit 71c max at same run in crysis.
I ll have that down to low 60s under that load by the time i get my new fans in and my cpu tower cooler.

thermalright ultra extreme.

but I would highly reccomend the case or better venting on your original case.
