SLI Cert'd Power Supply for ASUS P5N32-SLI Deluxe

Trying to do my first computer build job right. I'm glad my son has helped me thus far, but now we're both stymied over the PSU for the ASUS P5n32-SLI Deluxe motherboard. primarily over the 24 pin controversy and the SLI Certified PSU issue.

I'd really apprecaite some specific recommendations for a power supply. I'd like to spend around a hundred bux, but if its going to take a bit more well thats the way it is. (Just keep it under a grand guys)

Proposed setup:

Antec P180 Case
Asus P5N32-SLI Deluxe
Intel Pentium 4 551 Prescott 800MHz FSB 1MB L2 Cache LGA 775 EM64T
ASUS EN6800GT/2DT/256MB Geforce 6800GT 256MB (Starting with one vid board going to two eventually)
(1)Seagate Barracuda 7200.7 ST380817AS 80GB 7200 RPM 8MB Cache Serial ATA150
(2) NEC Black 2M Cache IDE/ATAPI DVD Burners
(1) More hardrive of unknown type eventually

Hi,

I am running P5N32-SLI, P4-3.73EE @ 4Ghz, Twin EVGA 7800GTX, Twin Raptor 74's, Twin 1gb ocz 667 ddr2'S, Coolermaster Mini watercooler, Arctic coolers on both cards and 2 Optical drives.

1 ANTEC NEO 480 Power Supply 🙂

Nice power supply and it is not SLI approved. Works perfect.

Good Luck,
Dave

I'm sure that a variety of units would work, but if you want to be certain, then pick one that's Nvidia SLI certified. Can't possibly go wrong on that deal.

The real issue is output on the 12v rail or rails, as modern vidcards and mobos depend on that output a lot more than in the past.

This list shows several Nvidia certified models in your price range- take your pick from enermax, antec and sparkle- they're all good... be sure they're compatible with your case...

Obviously, "SLI support" and "Nvidia Certified" aren't quite the same...

You definitely want a 24 pin or 20+4 pin atx connector to support the increased power demands from the mobo- there's good reason for the new standard.

I have an Antec Truepower II 550, which works fine and is SLI certified (I don't run an SLI rig though) and is about $90. However, after completing my build, I think I would have much preferred a power supply that featured nicely done wire sleeving to manage the rat's nest of wire in my rig from the Antec.

I am hoping to soon upgrade to a PC Power & Cooling 510 SLI. It features nicely done wire sleeving and is considered the best of the best in regards to power supplies (other than it's bigger siblings; the 850 and 1G). It is more spendy though, about $219. But you get what you pay for.
