okay so a while back I got two 6800's with the intent of overclocking and using in SLI. My mobo is a DFI Ultra-D which I modded into an SLI-D.
SLI worked fine. everything was okay. except I realized that two 6800's just wasn't that good. I purchased a 7800 GT and got a refund for the 6800's I was using (haven't shipped them out yet, read rest of post)
anyway, I'm trying to install my 7800 GT as I would any other card. The BIOS shows up fine, everything has enough power and I can tell the computer boots into windows because the bootup music plays, however there is no display on my screen.
(hereafter the important frustrating parts will be fully capitalized as to emphasize my frustration on the matter"
I can, though, put my 7800 into the bottom PCI-e slot and put a 6800 into the top PCI-e slot. This results in the BIOS and all the normal bootup activities NOT BEING DISPLAYED, but when windows starts up it's displayed. I CANNOT GET MY 7800 GT TO WORK CORRECTLY UNLESS THERE IS ANOTHER VIDEO CARD IN ANOTHER SLOT. I cannot switch the cards. I have tried moving all the jumpers (as instructed in the manual) to and from 'single VGA mode' and 'dual VGA mode' and tried different combinations of video cards, BUT THE ONLY WAY I CAN, AS OF THIS MOMENT, GET WINDOWS TO DISPLAY IS IF I HAVE A 6800 IN THE TOP PCI-E SLOT AND MY 7800 IN THE BOTTOM SLOT.
Any ideas? Has anyone ever had problems with a DFI SLI-D / 7800 GT combo? Please please PLEASE help me as I only have 12 days left to RMA these 6800's.
