If I have one graphics card, can I choose which pci-express slot on the SLI board I want to put it in?

I have an Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe.

No If using one card it goes in the top slot. If you are running a single card it will run in the top slot @ 16X If you have 2 cards installed they each run at 8X.

You can use the bottom slot, which runs PCI 2x
However I have done test and the performance difference is nil
So in another words it doesn't matter

I have a 6800GT, so this won't be bottlenecked at 8x PCI-Express bandwidth at full throughput?

I guess this is what they call future proofing! :)

Excellent, thanks for the suggestions, I already bought myself an Akasa Blue Ice HS+fan to replace the Asus cooler. If I find the Akasa too noisey, I'll get a Zalman.
