Sli based motherboards

Hi guys, This is my first thread

I am assembling a new midrange gaming pc. I am planning on using the C2D E7500 2.9 ghz processor, Nvidia 9800 Gt video card, 2gb Corsair xms Ram. The only thing that i have not decided is the mohterboard. i am looking out for a good sli based motherboard that can also be used for overclocking. I want to thank you in advance for your help.

SLI on LGA775 is only possible on nForce boards. A 750i board is what I'd pick if SLI is a must.

not entirely true. There is a fix/hack that will enable it on p45/x48/others, but it is very technical I hear, and unofficial.

I had a look at the 750i Board and it seems to be a pretty good board but from what comments i have read..they all say it is not a recomended board......i tried looking at many other borads but it was difficult to find any good SLI boards for C2D. I gave a thaught at Crossfire, but is crossfire good compared to SLI. and yea......i would like to play Crysis so is my above config good.

It depends on the res and detail, crysis is brutal. The rig in my sig barely hits 40FPS and drops to 24-26 sometimes at 1080P max details no AA. This seems to be playable as crysis can be played pretty smoothly at 25-35fps, most shooter games cant be so thats good, i would aim for a steady 30FPS to play it well. I have considered another 4890 for CF just to play crysis which is kinda sad as its kinda old now. And CF scales just as well as SLI, the 4770 and 5770 scale better than the other ATI chips from what i have seen.

If you haven't purchased a video card yet, I suggest you find a better performing video card before getting your feet wet in a SLI setup. It is kind of a rule of thumb that one should go for the fastest single video card that s/he can afford before considering a multi-GPU setup.

9800 GT isn't a bad card at all, BTW. But a GTX 260 or an HD 5770 is a whole lot better than SLI'ing two 9800 GT's.

Edit: Just received a spam from TigerDirect and a 750i board is on sale there. Not a bad deal for SLI on LGA775, but again it is much better to get a faster video card than running slower two's in tandem.

2 yrs ago 8800 or 9800 sli was good.
I still have a SLI but I dont use it much.
The reason I dont use it is that 1 4890 is better.
Intell MBs kill NV boards on LGA775 platforms.
