SLI - 2 Titans - is PCIE 3.0 important?

Hello,

I googled it but can't seem to find much definitive for benchmarks on this. One person said there was a big difference but their system info shows that on the PCIe 2.0 system he didn't have SLI enabled so it is hard to take that as credible.

I have a i7-x990 processor so I'm hoping I don't need to change out my processor, motherboard and memory just go take advantage of a couple of 780s or titans

I would of thought the CPU would of been more of a bottleneck ( if any ) than PCI 2.0 throughput.

ive been clocked at 4.4ghz long b4 half the forum ventured pasted into the 4.2ghz barrier on my 990x.

to be honest, i dont see a problem with 2.

I do and possibly foresee a possible issue with 3.
