Sleeving my cables

Im sleeving my PSU cables right now with the Vantec kit, but I dont know how to remove the SATA power cables that are on my Antec PSU. Anyone know of a guide or could explain to me? Are tools needed for the SATA power connectors?

Are the molded, or can you see the little metal tabs? If that is the case, you can just grab something really small (I actually use the 24p removal tools), and remove them just like floppy connectors or 3-pin fan connectors. I have yet to get into the molded ones though, although I have destroyed a few trying.

Molded 🙁

maybe ill just use all of the really wide sleeving....

i also need the tool or figure a way out to get the pins out of the small ones (like the 24pin pwr and other such smaller ones with big ass connectors)

i have the one for molex connectors (slightly diff but same function) - its that first one I need. This just keeps getting more expensive....

everything is expensive when you're dealing with computers, but it's fun 😀

I just bought a sleeving kit and it's arriving on thurs, I ordered Tas' fav. tool too :Q

I just made the sleeving go around the molex connectors when i was sleeving my PSU (i used the next smallest size after 1/2" and just forced it around)

hehe. I kinda cheated when I order my Seasonic. I just paid $15 to have them swap out the connectors with the color I needed. That 24p is a pain in the arse. And the cables already come sleeved.
I bought a case to ship to the guy that is building machines in Afghan, and I sleeved the PSU for him and everything. Once you get the right tools (damn SVC to hell with their cheap tools), the stuff is actually fun to do, if you have the time to do it.

Hey I was wondering if you still are putting up pics of rigs on your site. If you are, I'll send you some pics on friday when everything is said and done. Friday is the big shipment for me.. XP-120, AS5, 2 x Nexus fans, 1 x Panaflo, Sleeving, your tool....😕, tubing, zip ties, cable clips. P180 will be ordered next week I hope! But when I get the P180 I'll send you updated pics, I still would like to have my rig up on the site on friday after everything is done. Let me know 🙂 -- nice site btw.

Absolutely. I posted here, but it seems like no one was interested, so I killed the thread. But yeah. And updates on machines is welcome too. If you have any tips for the site, let me know. I'm still working on it though...

I found a way around that actually. If you kill the tabs on a molex connector, you can cut the cables, and find a spare (those extensions work wonderfully for this), and solder the spare cables onto the original ones. I didn't feel like getting crimping tools and all that, so I did this, and it works just fine. And since everything on the PSU is getting sleeved and heatshrinked anyway, you can't even tell...

not a bad idea. I ended up using the over-sized cable for the sata pwr cables, along with the bigger heat shrink. It still came out looking alright. I sleeved everything in this semi-bootleg fashion except for the 24pin cable, which has no sleeving still 🙁
I really dont want to pay another $10 just to sleeve that one thing! Maybe ill just electrical tape it or something....

As far as mixing the molex, thats not a bad idea, but i dont have the tools to do that just now. Might ahve to take a trip to radio shack.

you could always just split look the cable... i've been stuck before too and ended up doing that.

In the end, I ended up buying a modular PSU with no sleeving required... 😛
