Sleeving cables

I'm sleeving some of my cables. I picked up some nice looking sleeving and heatshrink from Frozencpu.com and I like the way it looks. I was going to pick up some more, but I came across some sleeving called PET and wondered if anybody has used it. Is it the same as most other sleeving (but with a fancy name) or is it a little better?

Thanks,
J

I just wonder how you can get the heatshrink to go around the power connectors, and yet be able to shrink enough. The best I know is 3:1 ratio... and I don't think it gets any better than that.

The sleeving I'm talking about Flexo PET.

To get around the connectors I use either this or this. I also bought various connectors and pins to making my own (ex. untailed fans) or replacing connectors (ex. changing power supply molex from plain to UV).

I like doing business with Jab-Tech. The PET lists a decent working temp. It will survive the heatshrink being worked. If charlietee rates Techflex highly I would not contest it.

I used some cheap blue sleeving kit from SVC in my sister's build and was really disappointed. The mesh could not endure the heat gun and the shrink curled like blue baloney :D I've had years of automotive experiance using shrink tubing, so I do know a little on the subject.

I'm not concerned with lighting effects as much as some. I've been using 3M black sleeving and shrink tubing. Bought it from action-electronics. They also have fiberglass lined sleeving that is for very high temp applications. 3M is amoung the best.

I bought my heat gun from Harbor Freight for $10 on sale, now it lists for $15. It has two settings, 600 and 1000 watt. Nice to have but not requiored. I would not use it to strip paint but for shrink tubing it is good enough.

yeah stick with TechFlex, they are the best. Ive tried some generic cable sleeving kit from SVC and it sucked. The generic or Techflex kits dont really give you enough of the lengths you need though, so you usually have to pick up extra individual lengths. Techflex stands up to a heat gun pretty good, no problems yet...

It's a bit pricey compared to the one at Harbor Freight but probably a much better unit.
When doing heatshrink the gun is not running for long periods of time like it would have too inorder to strip paint. Your money, get the tool you want. I don't like using butane lighters.

Here's what ribbon13 over in General Hardware uses..Real slick, I want one, but not this Christmas.

Just had to say something about the heat gun thing real quick. I bought one off of ebay for about $14 + shipping, and I have been using it for quite a while now. And I have no complaints about it. High / low settings with temperature control. Very nice.

I have 50 feet of 1/4 inch and 50 feet of 1/8 inch techflex coming. I'll probably grab some 3/8 and 1/2 inch later :)
