I do it whenever I have to sleep in the same room as my dad - in hotel rooms, up at cabins, camping, etc. Snoring drives me nuts. I also put them in on my redeye flight back from Vegas last week and it made sleeping much easier.

Yeah, I used to do it now and then when we lived in some really noisy apartments. Why do you want to use earplugs?

I would be concerned about my alarm not waking me up... or even worse the smoke alarm not waking me up...

Unless you're sleeping with the earmuffs the guys who direct planes wear, I don't think not hearing the smoke detector is gonna be a problem.

They cut off air flow to your ears and increases the likelihood of ear infections

What? :D

I use them sometimes on weekend and when I go away with friends. Make sure to get the wax ones. The foom ones do not very well.

Yeah, all the time.

But they are not all created equal so if you don't like it when you first try it out, don't be turned off from trying another type.

My favorite are the foam ones that have a bell shape.

Just picked up a pair like you've described.

i think i would find they uncomfortable to sleep in, especially when you lie on your side and they press into your ear. but, as a musician, i carry a pair with me at all times to protect my hearing.

I used to when I worked graveyard and had to sleep during the day... I used the foam ones that were bell shaped as someone described above... They were uncomfortable, but it was better than not sleeping.... man I hated graveyard... :disgust:

This guy makes my favorites. I used to use them all the time, but now only when it's really too loud (upper Manhattan in the summer, anyone?).

I have/do. My main concern is that I may not hear the boogieman and most times my ear hurts if I sleep on my side with the ear directly against the pillow.
