After seeing the reviews, I went and bought a copy of Sleeping Dogs from Target yesterday. As soon as I started it up, it prompted me to d/l the 384MB patch. I'm thinking, it's cool, at least they're patching it right away. I read they don't have that for PC and X360 yet.

I started playing it last night. Pretty fun game. I never played Saint's Row, but I don't know how to compare SD with that. But I've played all the GTA games, from the beginning on PS1. It has its similarities, but I really like the different hand to hand combat moves put into this game, it makes the game a lot more enjoyable and challenging. I read Yakuza is similar in this aspect.

The dialog, ambient conversation, slang, speech is quite accurate in this game compared to what you'll hear in Hong Kong. Lots and lots of foul language though.

The driving is ok, but the GPS can use some work. It doesn't remap when you go off course, afaik, which kinda suck. The camera doesn't auto rotate, so it can get annoying at times when you're fighting a bunch of thugs while getting stuck in a corner.

I'll probably finish it and exchange it for something else. I give this game a B.

I'm playing through on Xbox, really enjoying it so far. The pace is very good for an open world game. Great graphics, well done voice acting, fun combat mechanics. Definitely a great game.

I can't imagine the ps3 being different than the PC here, but the gps changes routes for me. However its quite slow for some reason so you need to be driving the wrong way for a while to change it.

I must suck 'cause I find the fight scenes pretty challenging, especially when there's so many coming at different directions. I am at the part where Wei goes to the martial arts centre with the blonde chic. The dialogue during the drive there is funny, when Wei hits oncoming vehicles, heh.

After you do the item hunt with the statues for the kung fu master, you can learn more moves and the fighting gets too easy. Still enjoyable because of the environmental kills. Some of the ones later in the game are brutal.

I haven't found it too easy yet. I've gotten better at it, knowning when one of the big guys is going to do some move you need to do a quicktime button press for instead of a standard counter helps.

And always keep an eye out for environmental kills.

I saw at the last second that the chandelier in the wedding scene was an enviromental kill option. Too bad I was just taking out the last guy before I had a chance to see what it did. :(

I picked it up on a whim the other day. The trailers and gameplay footage looked good, but I wasn't wild about yet another GTA clone. Picked it up anyway, and man, it's awesome.

The characters and story are very engaging. The voice acting is awesome. The combat system is tons of fun. The driving, albeit really arcadey is still good. The pacing is perfect, which I think is what I disliked the most about GTA 4. GTA just got pretty boring pretty quickly for me. I just didn't find it terribly engaging.

The environmental kills are just awesome too. Some of my buddies were watching me play it last night, and they commented on how the fighting never felt repetitive or got boring. The hand to hand combat is where the game really shines I think. Makes you feel like a real badass when you're fighting 6 guys at once, and countering everybody's attacks so fluidly. Then wrap it all up by taking the last guy and putting his head through a speaker.

I'm typically not a fan of the heavy leaderboard integration that a lot of titles have been doing recently, but this game does it well. I actually find myself trying to beat my friends' scores whenever I see the little box pop up. Normally I don't bother with the social aspect of games, but Sleeping Dogs executes it nicely.

It's a solid action title, that's for sure -- I'm ready to chalk it up as one of my favorite games. Some may disagree, but I find it worth the $60. Definitely worth a rent at the very least. It'll be a very good deal once it hits the $30 range too.

If you're looking for some more names on your leaderboard, add me. PSN name is Krynj.

There's a lot of "one-way" streets and the GPS follows traffic rules. I find that sometimes if I do a 180 and start going the "right" way, the GPS resets and gives me a good route.
