Last year my parents were on vacation and my younger sister was house-sitting. Their lab was old, but seemed to be doing ok. One day my sister went out to feed him and he was hudding at the bottom of the stairs in the garage and couldnt move. He was just wimpering, could not move his legs. His old body just gave out.

Naturally my sister freaked out, I raced over there from work and carried him up the stairs. We put some water in front of him and he drank it right up and started wagging his tail, but just couldnt move his legs much at all. I drove him to the vet with my sis and the vet said he had something wrong with him(forget what exactly) and it was going to be best to put him down.

I called my parents to let them know what was happening and they were both crying, since they weren't there to say goodbye. I held the phone up to our dog and put it on speaker so he could hear my parents say goodbye. His tail started wagging when he heard their voices.

Fuck, that the saddest shit I have ever seen in my life.

that just made me cry a little... i just went and gave my dog a big hug and wrestled with him a bit.

thanks.

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

RIP.

My childhood dog was put down just over 5 years ago, last year I was finally ready for another puppy

I'm the same.

Dogs are all open heart and unquestioned loyalty. Their loss leaves a void.

Paige, I'll bet you were the bestest doggy mommy in the whole world, just a loving provider of a four pawed paradise.

Awww, dude, there is nothing you can do when it's their time. I bet your dog was just so happy to be held and loved during her last moments.

Sorry for you loss, she looks so happy in the photos. I used to have a shepard/husky that would sleep at the foot of the bed. For years after he died, if I got up in the night I would still step over the spot to avoid stepping on him.

My condolences. Losing a pet's the worst. I'm gonna miss my cats when they're gone; especially the girl :^(
