Sleep Paralysis

Happened to me about three times within the week.

Probably because I took two hour naps every afternoon on top of my six hour sleep.

I've never had that happen, but the only things I can really remember are ones that I'm "falling"
I generally wake up suddenly and "jump" the bed is still shaking, another one similar to that was I woke up, and rolled out of bed at the same time (how's that for a rude awakening?)

Supposingly I've moved/talked in my sleep as well.

its happened to me quite a few times actually. When I fall asleep in class, and class ends so I try to wake up but cant move. I got scared the first couple times, but now I just try and fall back asleep so I can reset. Still shakes me up from time to time though.

Sometimes a part of it is imagery from your dreams being incorporated into your waking vision for a while. I get that sometimes. One time I saw these funny patterns moving around on the ceiling. Another time I saw my cat floating around above the bed. Those two were just weird and not particularly disturbing, but the last time I remember having it was scary. It looked like the room was on fire. I could see red light coming from behind the dresser in the corner. I jumped up and turned the light on, and of course the room wasn't really on fire, but it gave a me a shock. I had to stop sleeping in that room because it was happening so much. I've only ever had it in that room. Weird.

There are a lot of superstitions about this as well.

I've had it several times where you can hear people coming, they walk right up to you, and they shout at you, but you can't freaking move. Man, they could beat me up good and I would be helpless like a ragdoll. Weird disorder, but at least it's only one of those occational and rare events. I'd hate to be one of the people who have to deal with it every day. The only thing I can figure out about the disorder is that even though you wake up, it's like your brain forgot to flip on a couple of switches. As soon as it realizes this, it turns them on and you're fine.

Had this happen a few rare occassions... SUCKED!!!!

I've also had more than a few occassions where I try to move in my dream (not knowing it was a dream) and I'm paralysed. The few times I've had sleep paralysis is when I was in semi-lucid dreaming and I was losing control of the dream/nightmare so I decided to wake myself up.

Glad to hear I'am not the only one..makes sleeping an adventure. I never know when it's going to happen or what triggers it. I suspect it may be Tabasco.

If I remember correctly, brain releases some chemicals during REM that temporarily paralyze you. The duration is short, but if you wake up unexpectedly, it takes some time for the effect to wear off.

I sleep with my TV on, and when I wake up, I realize that I incorporated stuff from TV into my dreams.

Say the news is on and they're talking about Saddam.. I'll start dreaming about him and a sniper rifle.

HBO @ 12 on sundays😎

Used to happen to me all the time as a kid... but I haven't had an episode in about 3 years.

It really freaks me.

That's weird... I see floating figures, patterns, and colors quite often, usually as I'm falling asleep.

Never experienced this sleep paralysis though, probably in part because I'm convinced I suffer some mild sleep apnea and the fact that it can take me up to 20 minutes to wake up I probably wouldn't notice if I couldn't move.
So is sleep paralysis basically the opposite of sleep walking then?

never happened to me...the most ive had is my limbs numb from sleeping on them, and waking up and jumping from the falling dream.

Correct. Sleep walking is a form of waking dream where your body subconciously activates and walks around, or hikes, runs, etc without the knowledge of the individual doing it.

I'm not sure if this is what I have....and have quite often. I'm semi-awake and I think I see my room (sometimes, I think I see a person there too, like my dad). So, I feel I'm awake and want to get up. So I lift my hand. In my mind, I think I'm actually accomplishing it...I even "see" my hand being lifted, but in reality, I'm not getting anything done. I soon realize this as I can't lift my head. I get pissed because I know I'm stuck in this sleep problem again. The only way I can get out of it is if I shake my head in real life. The problem is, I don't know if I'm actually shaking it in real life or just in my mind. Eventually, I manage to shake myself out of it. I'm all exhausted afterward, my head is dizzy and I wonder how creepy it might have looked if someone was in the room.

This happens to me alot, it's kinda hard to describe.

more than once i come to some short period of events/place that i am sure it happen in my dream before.
i remember i had "Sleep Paralysis" once

It has happened to me a number of times where I would wake up and could not even move my head. I have never thought about it before but that is what it must be like being a quadriplegic.

I scared the crap out of my wife during our Honeymoon. About the 4th night, I apparently decided to go for a stroll in the condo while I was asleep and I ended up falling back asleep on the couch in the other room. She woke up w/ me gone and it totally freaked her out. She thought I got pissed at her in the middle of the night for some reason ofr another and left her. I also talk to her and have conversations w/ her while I am asleep. Sometimes dreams tend to continue till after I wake up, especially if the room is completely dark when I wake up, I'll start talking to someone who was in my dream until I realize I'm awake now and turn on the light and find out I'm talking to my closet 🙂

Yes, it is a weird feeling. Nobody knows why it happens. It's just like your body forgets to flip a switch or something. Kinda like someone upstairs forgot to follow the "wake up" check list. 😉

I had this happen once. I dreamt I upgraded my firmware to 1.0b and it's been good ever since. As a bonus my core temp runs rather consistently at 98.6. I'm hoping in the next release fixes the cracking and poping when I walk bug.

😉
