Sleep mode on a dual boot system

Suspend/resume worked just fine when I had an unused and unformatted 500GB HDD in my Win7 desktop (win7 is on a separate SSD). I put Linux Mint on the HDD and now when I try to sleep the PC it only locks the screen.
I unplugged the data cable to the Linux HDD and windows sleeps just fine. Has anyone else encountered this problem and found a work around.

That's weird. I dual boot Windows 7 and Linux and AFAIK Windows 7 suspends just fine. They also share the drive so I'm not sure if that is a factor.
