Soo, when I standby my PC, the fans don't turn off. The problem appeared a few days ago. Strangely enough, when I turn it off, the fans stop. So, I guess the problem isn't a counterexample to the law of conservation of matter. Sooo, what could the problem be?

Did the fans use to turn off in standby? Did you make any recent changes? Not all motherboards turn off the fans in standby mode, and there may even be a setting for it.

Very few computers turn the fans off in standby. That's VERY rare. Check your BIOS settings. Maybe a power saver mode got reset. There's no control for that in Windows itself. It would be implemented either by the mobo or PSU.

Is there a reason the fans are coming on? Do you notice any heat issues? If so, the fans running will actually save your system from overheating.

The bios / fan units should run independant of the OS and that is a good thing.

Check to make sure you are going to standby in P3 and not P1 in the BIOS. P1 will leave the fans running P3 will shut the computer down and start it back up in the same spot it was put to standby in.

I think ChemGeek is onto something. I don't think you were in sleep mode when the fans went off. I think you were in Hibernation mode.

Well....Hibernation will shut everything down and resume windows from the last state. Stanby F1 is an active stanby, it keeps the fans running and of course the PSU (otherwise the fans would be off). It is basically a low power state. Standby F3 writes the info to the RAM and shuts everything down, so when you hit the power button or click the mouse, the computer comes right back on where you were. It is significantly faster than hibernating as there is no real "coming out of hibernation" waiting time. The problem with F3 that I find is that many times on wakeup, the computer will freeze. The freezing may have to do with the RAM or even OCing.
