Question:

Is it possible to sleep in your car when its 0 degrees Farenheit outside? If you bundle up enough can you make it work? Or is there a risk you could get frostbite?

I have a place to stay at but I dont want to stay there right now, so lets just focus on the question at hand.

With the engine off of course, I dont have the money to pay for gas to keep my car idling all night.

Why don't you want to stay at your place?

As for the Q, yes, you can bundle up with covers and what have you. Wear something for your head too.

leave the car run and the heat on. i did that once in a ditch by accident. it was icy and I drove in the ditch. but it was so cold out i thought i'd take a nap. that nap turned into a 6 hour sleep fest until a local farmer knocked on my window and woke me up. good thing I had a full tank of gas when i feel asleep b/c when I awoke I have about 1/8th tank left.

Not without specialized equipment designed for sub-zero temps.

dont forget about the cold air you will be breathing in. you can easily catch a cold or wake up to a dried out and hoarse throat.

they make sleeping bags for that temp so yes it is, but you want to wear a stocking cap inside of that sleeping bag and a good layer of clothes.

you also only want to do this for an adventure, not for money

I have done it. A few friends of mine and I while in the army drove up to Amsterdam from germany and couldn't find a hotel so slept overnight for 2 days in our car. This was at the end of Jan. so it was pretty damn cold. Not sure if it was exactly zero degrees, but it was snowing and pretty damn close.

Note: If you even travel to Amsterdam and rent a car or drive your own, NEVER EVER park in the back of the Train station there. The second day we had our windows smashed and everything taken from the car. That night we slept in the car without windows so it was EXTRA cold due to the damn wind.

Sure, they make 0 degree sleeping bags. Being in your car is no different.

Another thing, if you are trapped in a car, a single candle will prove enough heat to keep you from freezing to dead. You could try that.

I've slept 4-5 hrs in a car when it was single digits out (wearing all my outerwear), without leaving it running. Never tried 0 degrees. I suppose if it gets too cold you could start the car in order to let the heat run a bit. It will probably take a little while before the inside of the car gets cold again after that.

Here's the short of it:

I need to concentrate on getting my homework done for the next week, and if I dont get things done I could fail my classes and that could be bad.

I have a SEVERE problem with procrastination. If I let myself go home, I am waaay too much at ease. Even if I go there just for the night, I wont get out of bed until late morning the next day.

I need to find some sort of solution to get my schoolwork done. I cant fail. I only got a semester left after this one, I need to pull through and get my degree, so I can be done with all this B/S

just, you know, go to a library. or a 24 hour IHOP. not a lot else to do in those places. I wouldn't want to try to think all the while trying to survive in 0 deg weather. don't make this mistake

sleeping in your car isn't going to help you get your homework done. I mean if the fear of failing isn't enough to get you to do your work, I don't see how this would be more effective. Just goto a local library to study and get a good nights rest at home. Wake up and goto the library again.

That is like the most absurd reason for freezing your ass off in subzero temperatures for.

Agreed. Grab some coffee, go to an upstairs of a library that's secluded, and stay warm!

I will do my homework in the public library, restaurants, or other places like that. Or maybe in a classroom at school or something (a classroom without a computer in it, since im addicted to the internet)

our library has computers :(

Wherever there are computers with internet, I face trouble buckling down and doing homework :(

luckily I have a laptop without wireless or ethernet that I can use to type my papers. But any computer attached to the internet is pure evil.

I know its ironic that Im typing from a computer right now, but my excuse is that i just got done with my day of classes. I will soon leave this computer though.

Thats sounds fine, so why can't you just use home to sleep in? A good nights rest will do a lot more for you than freezing your ass off in the back seat of a car.

Because when I sleep in my own bed, I sleep for 12 hours at a time, sometimes more. I dont want to get out of bed, because I have a day of school and schoolwork to face (my classes dont start til 11 each day, incase u guys were wondering)

I do this even when I have had plenty of sleep the whole week before. I tend to use sleep as an excuse to put off stuff. I probably only need around 8 hours of sleep.
