sleep cycles question...

iamme

Lifer
several times in the past week, i've been waking up early in the morning (around 5am) without the alarm clock going off.....feeling very alert and refreshed. i needed to wake up around 8am, so i would force myself back to sleep for another 3 hours. however, when the alarm clock wakes me up at 8am, i feel groggy and unrefreshed.

i suspect it has something to do with sleep cycles and whatnot.

for anyone in the know: should i just start my day at 5am, when i "naturally" wake up? i'm afraid i will be tired through the day and become sleepy at around 9pm. whatchathink?

When you body naturally wakes you up at 5AM, nef on ATOT for 3 hours & all will be good iamme 😛

i've actually been consciously refraining from posting on ATOT lately......(not so) suprisingly, i've been more productive IRL....😛

happens to me all the time. I think my inner alarm clock is set an hour or two before whenever I plan on getting up. It sucks because usually I can't go back to sleep, because i'm too wake. Not that its a problem, but sometimes I wake up tooooo early.

I've read in several books that a sleep cycle lasts about 90 minutes, and includes falling asleep, going into REM, and coming out of REM sleep. It was recommended to go to sleep at a time that would allow you to wake up at the end of sleep cycle. If you wake up during REM sleep, then you will likely feel groggy but waking up at the end of a sleep cycle usually leaves you feeling refreshed.

Are you waking up near the end of a 90 minute increment...ie, 4.5, 6, or 7.5 hours?
