Slear Plastic cover on Desk

I have two different microsoft mice, both optical and niether will work on this type of surface. Anyone know what I'm describing?

Yup, an appropriate mouse pad is the fix for that problem. I like the 3M precision mousing surface (I think they have some versions specifically for optical mice), but others will work as well. I use the Logigech Marble Mouse trackball, a great, inexpensive pointing device that requires little open space on your desk and needs no pad.

.bh.

Agree with Zepper's suggestion. The problem is, your clear plastic top reflects back and will mess up an optical mouse, and it is too slick for a ball.

If nothing else, a piece of paper will also work on that surface. Just tape it to the desktop as a quick fix for an optical mouse.

That's what I'm currently doing, but I need to replace my aging mouse anyway, so I was hoping a laser would work on this surface.

Logitech Revolution will track on anything. One review I saw had it working on a piece of plate glass.

Try it and see. Logitech VX lasers are pretty good. I'm using VX Nanos on two systems. (I like small rodentia!)

Yeah, I'd find someone with a laser mouse and see if they'll let you borrow it to try it on your surface.
