Slaved PATA vs SATA

I have an Abit AT7 MAX2 which has a HPT374 chip onboard. As this chip supports RAID5 and I happen to have 3 of the same hard drive around I would like to take advantage of this feature. Now then, I have two PATA channels on the chip and two SATA ports that run off the 374 as well.
I can run a hard drive as master on one channel, and two devices as master/slave on another channel. Or I can run a master/master/SATA setup as I have Abit's Serillel thingie. Are there any advantages to the latter setup, or former for that matter?
Sorry about the awful wording...I blame it on

If RAID 5 is the ultimate goal, then I would think that no one configuration is going to be better thanany other.
