Slackware mouse problems..

I've recently installed the newest stable of slak, and everything is great.. except in X, my mouse is wacky.. i can't control the pointer.. if i start to move it it flickers around and eventually pops back up to the left hand corner.. in console the mouse works fine.. the mouse is an intellimouse explorer, its assigned to /dev/mouse .. any help is greatly appreciated. thanks..
