Slackware-Current ISO Upgrade Question

I am a relative newbie to slackware. I am running slack 8.1 and am considering upgrading to the newest release (8.2?). What has me concerned is that it took me several hours to get slack 8.1 running almost perfect (still can't get it to print).

Is there any way to upgrade without losing all the tweaks and apps I installed?

If you just install the new packages over the old ones, entirely separate apps should still be there. But if you upgrade glibc, there's a good chance they won't work. As far as tweaks and configuration go, just back up your /etc directory - most of those files can just be dropped back in after you upgrade.
