Earlier today I spoke with Jeany (510-353-1220 X155) at ExcaliberPC.com. They have inventory of 2.4Ghz SL6RZ from the "Q" Maylaysia fab (unfortunately not the "L" fab). They have 50 OEM processors if anyone is interested in the "Q" produced chips.

I have not ordered from Excaliber previously but these people really seem to have their act together with first class customer service and presale support. Newegg is very reliable and trustworthy but they do not offer the personal attention that Excaliber just gave to me. Resellerratings.com also has Excaliber at almost a 10.0 rating. Over the last two days I also spoke with Newegg, Googlegear, and Fry's Outpost. Excalibur is the only one that went to any effort (and that was considerable) to find out exactly what they would be shipping me.

I ordered a SL6EF since I could not get either a 2.4 SL6RZ "L" fab or a 2.53 SL6S2. Not sure if this was the right decision but I will either be smiling or crying before the weekend is over. Putting it in an Abit IT7-Max2-rev2 with 256MB Kingston PC-2700 Hyper-X. I love buying new toys.

Everything should arrive tomorrow (Friday). My project for Saturday is to backup my hard drive, remove the TH7II I am running now, and install/test the new equipment.

I am especially looking forward to very good performance with this new CPU and mobo because the TH7II has always been FSB limited due to its slow speed DRCG's (limited to 3X memory multiplier at any FSB over 117 MHz). Someone was nice enough to send me faster DRCG's but when it came to do the epic soldering job required to replace them, I simply got very lazy and decided to go all the way with a new board/CPU/memory. The fact that my current 2.0 GHz CPU will not run reliably and stable beyound a 128 MHz FSB (2.56 GHz), also strongly influenced this decision.

My goal is 3.0 Ghz at 170 MHz FSB. Anything more will be a bonus. If the SL6EF cannot get to 3.0 GHz I will not be happy but such is the case with any crap shoot. I am anticipating that a 132% increase in FSB speed, to say nothing about a 120% increase in processor speed, should result in a real and substantial improvement over my current performance. My goal is not to maximize the benchmark numbers but just have a very fast machine so I minimize the time I have to watch the machine waiting for it to complete a task. I also want my machine to be as close to 100% stable as possible for all applications.

fab is the plant for the chip
ie: code on the chip L249xxxx = Malay week 49 year 2002
L and Q fab are Malay
3 is Costa Rica

3's seem to be the best for OC
L's are next and then the Q's

Will get 5-8fsb higher with each fab listed in the order above.
