The most tedious part of DAO was the dream world.. forget what it's called. There's a mod to skip it. Will definitely be using that if I play it a 2nd time.

Aww, but you can sex up the demon in there :] Or get Blood Magic perk. And I think if you get enough persuasion/intimidation you can get the perk + make the demon leave.

I agree with everything but the 'no payout' part. This is where you get your stats permanently upgraded, which is exactly the reason why people created a mod to skip it (don't have to pay it, but still you get all your possible bonus stats from there).

I think he means payout in terms of story. It really does nothing to address the actual story. Everything story related is before and after the dream sequence. it's filler, in that it simply shows you what it would be like to venture through that dream world thingy, which is a big part of the DA world, but in no way is venturing through that relevant to the main, or any secondary quest.

Is this normal settings for Skyrim? The textures seem very dull for 2011.

Ah okay I get it. I agree that that part in itself is just to get the bonus stat points, and otherwise pretty meaningless in the grand scheme of things. However the players *have* to go through it to continue the story.

I keep seeing all the glowing reports on how great Witcher 2 is. I got the game based on that and i really hate it. I really wish i could do away with the "twitch game" aspects of it. As in, the boxing where you have to hit a key sequence exactly or the stupid arm wrestling.

I have Skyrim on both PS3 and PC. I played both versions up to the first town to compare. and while the ps3 version is passable, it looks so much better on the pc. The only thing i hated was the controls so got a gamepad for pc so it much better.

Dragon Age series: loved them. Origins was great fun. Loved Claudia Black (Morgen?) in that. Great story and character interactions. Even tho it got bad reviews here, i got Dragon Age 2 (for ps3) and had a good time in it.

and to go a bit off topic but i just finished playing thru all 3 of the Uncharted games. Wow, best fun i have had in a game in a long long time.

Side question - I only have 4 GBs of RAM, but was planning to try the LAA 2nd edition. I expect I will probably get 2.5 GB of RAM usage in-game at best if I max my 4 GBs. Will this be enough for smooth play in Skyrim?

FTR, i did some testing with the LAA and found no change in memory utilization. I have 1GBx2 VRAM and 6GB System. With/Without the LAA fix both cards were maxed with about 1.8GB of system, so right near 4GB total. In my tests the LAA fix did nothing noticeable.

Thank's for the head's up there. I hated that section too...thats a classic Bioware thing that I have never liked (alternative world/inside your own head/etc). Tedious and boring with no payout...

It was pretty fun the first time, so don't skip it. But way too long to do a second time.

I've played a good chunk of all of them, but not finished any. I probably got closest to the end on DA:O, didn't get too far in The Witcher 2, and have dumped some hours into Skyrim.

I found DA:O to have good lore, and I normally don't get very deep into fantasy stories. I found myself reading a lot of the backstory and books lying around. The races and such are well detailed and everything made things worth caring about. The combat was a little simple, however I did play this one on the 360 which is quite a bit different so it may not be that comparable.

The Witcher 2 had much better combat, but because of that felt kind of difficult. Boss battles are quite difficult, and while it's good for boss battles to feel epic they felt a little TOO tough. Still, it's a very nice looking game and the combat system is the best of the bunch. It's a bit slow and methodical but the timing and such is what makes it good.

Skyrim is the largest game by leaps and bounds. There's much, much more content in this game. It's sprawling and completely wide open and I love it. Between them all I prefer the game Skyrim is. The combat isn't as fancy as The Witcher, and the lore and characters aren't as fleshed out as DA:O, but it's good enough in those departments and the open world gameplay makes up for it. It's also very good looking for the tech it uses. Skyrim also has a huge fan base already and they're pumping out mods like crazy which make the game a lot better in different ways. This is something the other games don't have as much of, if any.

Dragon age 1 : beat it
dragon age 2 demo: deleted after 10 minutes

Witcher 2: several hours.. not fun

Skyrim: losing sleep over it.

Witcher 2 was hardest on the system but I think Skyrim is slowly getting there with mods. certainly has more "wow" spots.

Thanks for everyone's comments, I've now been playing Skyrim for a few weeks and I love it. Best game I've played. I've encountered a few bugs, but that's always true in any PC title. I'm losing sleep over it too. Just wish I had more time.

I tried watching LotRs the other night, got a new larger TV for xmas - got about 1 hour into it, and was like "man, this makes me want to go play skyrim." So I did. Has anyone else noticed that Skyrim looks oddly like the LotRs scenery? I've also been to NZ multiple times, so yeah, Skyrim looks like NZ.

Having played all three recently, I have to say all are good but the Witcher 2 is definitely the best of the recent RPGs. Skyrim is pretty good goog though, just not as good.
