Unreal.. I got the game a couple days ago and put around 12 hours into it, and today when I was walking into some INN, the game wouldnt load for a long time. I had to reset my PC, and when I reload the game all my save files are curropted. I get an error message saying

"The savegame cannot be loaded because its outdated. Its version is 0 and the current version is 8"

I tried to verify the cache in steam. Anyone know a fix for this ive searched around didnt find much.

I don't have any personal experience with Skyrim, but I think you're SOL.
Be glad it wasn't 80 hours you invested into it.

Yeah I am trying to redownload/install right now. I dont plan on replaying the 12 hours if I cant fix this.. what a shame $60 down the drain.. no wonder people download the torrent versions now

Dont feel bad about using console codes to restore your level, perks and some of your equipment if you do need to start a new game.
And you are a damn fool if you only give up after 12 hours. Most of us have hundreds of hours in one character. Losing a handful is a very minor issue, trust me. And your next guy will go alot faster cuz you already know where many things are, and you probably wont make newb time-wasting mistakes.

What in the hell would make you think this wouldn't have happened with a torrented version of the game? Don't use some bullshit twisted logic to try and make stealing games right.

When did I say this wouldnt happen with a torrented version? And you speak about logic? What I am saying is that is a complete waste of $60 paying for a game only to play it a couple days and lose everything. Google is littered with people having the same issue as me, and no fix for it. This seems alright to you? The game was released 4 months ago and no fix?

To each his own, for me having to run through 12 hours of gameplay again isnt fun, its tedious, and quite frankly I shouldn't have to.. Going to see about restoring my levels etc with the console commands, thanks for that suggestion.

I didnt mean playing it the first time is tedious, the game is great. I mean having to run around again for 12 hours repeating everything I already did would be pain staking.. Im not the type that plays through the game a few times. Not to mention the exact same thing can happen again..

Even if you don't get your saves back, It probably won't take you half as long as the first time to repeat what you did.

this.

12 hours lost in Skyrim isn't as big a loss as you might think. Even if you replay those same 12 hours, the same way you did (remember: you can always head in a a completely different direction at any time), you will churn through the same events much quicker and with a bit more experience. You'll get to respec a character if you were worried about being unbalanced at the beginning.

Not to worry too much about being unbalanced, though--the rest of the game is cake by the time you reach ~lvl 32

Well if the saves were corrupted; it would be good to know how/why as it might just as well as happen after 90 hours of play :)

Was it all the save files or just the latest ? I can see it being just the latest if someone shutdown as you were still writing to the disk (or if you shut the comptuer down improperly).

I'm on the same page. I hate in my life repeating things. This is also why I'm quite careful with my work backing things up regularly, saving, etc. Even if I enjoyed those 12 hours I'd need quite a long break before stomaching going back to through them. I'd resent it and it would soil the experience.

I played skyrim for 55 hours or so, not hundreds. I have no interest in any game simply dropping hours from my life as if I have nothing else to do or no other way to enjoy it, so that repeated 12 hours would feel like losing a day of life in a sense because I already did it before.

It is too bad that you lost all that game-play, but you can back up your saves to an external hard drive or even USB drive. They don't take up that much space. The path is C\Users\Username\Documents\MyGames\Skyrim\Saves. Just copy the save folder and put it in the external media. I did this every few hours of game-play just to be safe, but I have over 400 saves and haven't had a problem with corrupted saves.

I dont think Steam has cloud saves for this game, but you could e-mail their help desk (good luck with getting a quick response) and ask if there is any way to recover saves from their server. I definitely agree with the other posters though, that if you only lost 12 hours of gameplay, it is definitely worth starting the game again, at least it would be for me. The game does get better as you level up and gain more quests.

Exactly how I feel. I play through the game once and thats it, and I really dont enjoy replaying things over. Also, I lost ALL my save games, they were all corrupted except for the first few which was around 30 minutes in. I save like literally every 5 minutes or less because if I die I even hate having to do back a few minutes.. Thats why I said to each his own, some others may enjoy that I simply dont.

I ended up just cheating my way back to where I was. Only thing that I couldnt figure out was how to unlock certain areas of the map, so I ended up opening the whole map for fast travel. Ill just walk to the places I havent found. Also going to be backing up my save folder on a daily basis.

Seems like there is no fix for this, I have looked all over the web. Dont know how as this has been reported all the way going back to November..

who's to say it's not your fault your saves were corrupted. I'm not sure why you are saying pirating the game would be better than buying a legitimate copy of software. The only times I had corrupted saves in TESv was when I started messing around with the console and putting crazy things in my inventory, also, showing all points on the map. Did you use console at all?

Didnt touch anything in the console, also didnt mod anything. Played the game as plain jane as possible. Its a pretty well documented bug in the game that people get for no apparent reason. Even if I did use the console, its a bit retarded to blame file corruption on that. If thats the case, its still bad programing and a bug. Unless I opened the filed and started to edit the game file, why should anything IN the actual game they program be off limits or your files are gone for good?

It does sync to cloud.
