A GTX 560 TI will handle games at ultra or high @1920 x 1080 resolution. I assume this is the resolution you are planning on playing at???

The 560ti is more comparable to the 6950, rather than the 6850 both in price and performance.

I have an i7 920 with a 4870 (waiting on the 7--- series), and I play Skyrim on High settings at 1920x1080 and it plays fine. The FPS does drop every once in a while when I'm spinning around like a top in a big city like Solitude, but the game looks and plays fine. Not sure what CPU you're going with, but with a 6850 you should be more than good.

Yeah, Skyrim is mostly CPU limited
(esp with lots of shadows, shadows turned on for trees, landscapes, and high details on shadows).

Its a old engine that only supports 2 cpu threads, so basically the game loves Intel.

So you want a 2500k CPU (cheapest SB that you can overclock I believe), in your system.
If thats out of your reach ($$$ wise), go with a Phenom II solution and overclock that as high as you can.

Either GPU will be fine for skyrim.

Get an i5-2500k if you can and overclock it to at least 4 Ghz. The video card is incidental as long as its around HD 6850 or GTX 460 on up.
