skypeout

Well I just downloaded the latest version of Skype. They've enabled SkypeOut, the ability to call any phone you want. So I bought 10 euro bucks ($12USD) just to play with it. It sounds very good from what I can tell.

Plus the rate for anywhere in the lower 48 states is 1.2 cents per minutes. Alaska and hawaii are 2 cents per minute. Not a bad deal if you ask me 🙂

I read about this in Time. I'm going to test it out. Regular skype works great and Skypeout is much better than my current long distance rate.

Does anyone know how AT&T is going to charge for VOIP when you can just use something like Skype to call another Skype user? I mean the other person needs to have skype, but if it's someone you know and talk to often and they have a computer.. why would you pay when you can use skype? (Not talking about skypeout which seems like a good deal.)

they wouldn't be able to. That would be like the FCC charging 5 cents for every email that is sent. A lot of companies are going to VOIP for their voice communications. The company I work for is headed in that direction.
