It appears he pulls his chute when he notices the plane below him. Probably saved his live by doing so as it slowed him down just in time.

 
For those who don't see vid, right click download the vid from the link on the page. And damn that was close, if not for his chute that could have got very messy. 🙂
 
Hah, reminds me of my first jump. I was just about to leave the plane, as the instructors pulls me back. Another plane flew right under ours... :Q
