Skull-shaped Puffball (Calvatia craniformis) Mushroom In my front yard.

Darn thing is about 5 inches across and looked it up HERE and they claim you can actually eat it. Has anyone eating this thing before? It look fuggly but smells really good, if you like the way fresh mushrooms smell, and kinda intrested in eating it.

If you have eaten these what way do you like best or suggest I cook it. Im going for flavor here and dont really want to waste it since I have but the one.

So clue me in please

OOOOO EDIT I got some left over meat and some onions. Give me some of your best saute' ideas. Im gonna make a sauce with this and the onions based on some suggestions from you all.

Acording to the site there is no posion ones that look anything like it. There is a purple one like the one I found but the site claims you can it it just like this one.

I like mushrooms, always have just never came across one of these before and it peeked my intrest to look it up. Was just suprised that the site said you can actually eat these and people do. So what the heck I say I will try it, just looking for ones that may have to share how they have cooked and eaten one to get an idea how do do it for its freaking huge. And suposedly it hasnt reached maturity yet . It gets upto 8" tall and can feed a family

Whats the worst that can happen? Lets see I can die, no biggie bring it on. Whats the best thing that can happen? Well I think there is two here. One is it can taste damn good like the site suggests. The second is it can taste damn good and give me one hell of a ride

Im going for the 2nd one, prolly gonna end up with the 1st good one, chances of the bad happening highly unlikly unless I OD on the 2nd good. It is a big mushroom so who knows. I will report back once I get some good ideas on the saute'. And if I dont you all know what happened

I am out of my "getting high" pills rright now, wont have them till tomorrow. And right now I am headach free for a few hours. I feel damn good so I want some answers to this hopefully soon before my headach comes back and become tottaly useless

Puffball mushrooms are great. I used to eat them all the time when I visited my Grandma in northern Minnesota. We would have them with bacon, onion and pan fish like Sunny, Bluegill and Perch.
