Skipping problems with copied DVD's

Ok last night I used this guide GUIDE to make a backup copy of a DVD I own. Everything went fine and the dvd looks fine but it skips small sections, If I rewind and playback it doesn't seem to skip the same part again, kinda like a random skip, it skips a few seconds up to 20 second each time. I used DVD decrypter, DVD shrink 3.2 and VOB Blanker to remove the extra features. The dvd player is a home dvd player made by Toshiba. I'll see if my computer's dvd player does it too. The toshiba has never given us problems before though.

Usually when Ive had this happen it was either the quality of the media or the quality of the burn. . .

I've never had a problem since I switched to riteks and +r media

I used Maxell DVD+R 8X 4.7Gb. Is there a way to test the burner, will burning it at 4X instead of 8X work better. I got the discs at Walmart so I suppose if I tried to burn another and it still skips then they may let me exchange it for another brand.

Maxell just rebrands disks. . . You could be getting a variety of different media when you buy maxell. You need to look into media codes . . . and comaptibility stuff. . .

This may not be the problem. . . Just a first place to look. . . .

You're doing it all wrong... if I was only sure that I won't get banned, I'd post the best fool-proof method to accurately back-up DVDs... The problem is VOB Blanker, in your case.

As for Maxell, all the Maxells I've seen so far are RICOHJPN, and this is the only disk brand I use, so this time I'm not telling you to change media.

You won't - Anandtech believes in fair-use.

DVD Decrypter + DVD Shrink = Win. Both free, both easy. Enjoy.

Seconded.

Additionally, I've found that with picky media it helps if you burn at 2x or 2.4x, depending on if you're using -R or +R.

Just use DVD Shrink in conjunction with Nero and you should not need anything else whatsoever.

1.Analyse
2.Rip
3.Burn

(2. & 3. are achieved by pressing "backup"....)

End of story
