Skipping "Preparing Network Connections"

I've noticed a major annoyance when my laptop is roaming on wireless, rather than on the main network it functions on (with ethernet). It will sit at the preparing network connections screen for 2 or more minutes, even if there are some working wireless connections that are programmed to be connected. Is there any way to make windows skip this process and let me login and control the network setup myself?
