check the pressure often. if the tire meets the load rating for the car its fine. just dont hit any big potholes.

People who buy wheels and tires like in the pic know they are not going to last. They can be safer, if you are racing around corners, until you hit a pothole. And as has already been pointed out, you'd have to check and properly inflate them frequently. If you are thinking of buying a set, be prepared to crawl over all obstacles; railroad tracks, pot holes, gravel, etc. It can be very annoying driving behind people with tires like that.

The increased weight at the perimeter of the tire/wheel causing increased rolling resistance easily offset any benefit of the lack of sidewall flex you'd get from the shorter profile tire.

yeah, LOW PROFILE, get it right :p

And they're only a danger, like any tire, if you don't maintain them. Who doesn't check their air pressure... oh wait, probably 70% of America :(

Skinny tires? What you really mean is low profile tires. They are fine if you only drive on smooth roads. A decent size pot hole will damage those wheels pretty easily though. Not to mention wheels like that are often heavier than the stock wheels that come on the car and have a detrimental effect on handling, braking and acceleration. You never want to add unsprung weight to a car...especially a performance car.

QFT. On a paved track race car it can be a desirable trade-off in favour of increased cornering ability. On everything else it's teh lose. So essentially it's a case of form over function to put it politely (asshattery if not); like bell bottom pants.

yeah, it's always funny to see people buy all these large heavy ass rims for their civic... it's already an ecobox, why are you going to make it HEAVIER.

Which is why I won't ever get rims... it's just far too expensive to get nice light and strong ones... only to have them bent from the craptacular roads around here.

Other tired trends demonstrated by that piccy are crippled suspensions and industrial slag backdrops.
