anybody in it? specifically, anybody in ohio?

im goin to states for Computer Maintenance Technology.. was promised test + hands-on, but was a simple easy multiple-choice test. i guess states is where the hands-on stuff is.

Oh my God, they finally dropped "VICA" from their name. It's about time.

Unfortunately, most computer-type activities are through BPA, not SkillsUSA/VICA. I'm not familiar with SkillsUSA, other than the limited involvement I had with it while I was a vocational student (and later an employee at the same school).

That said, I hear that their testing is roughly the same as BPA... that is, subpar. It would surprise me if you actually do hands-on -- they didn't in the past, it was only a rather easy multiple-choice test. And even *that* was alarmingly difficult for some of the IT-related students to pass.

Yea i'm in it, for Massachusetts

I took silver in the state for Robotics and Automation Technology last year (only gold moves on to nationals)🙁

I'm doing it again this year

Yea In House + Districts is written tests, States and Nationals has the written test and the practical.

I was in it back in 1999. I got gold in the state of AZ for Electronics Tech and 14th in Nationals. Lots of fun. I miss it 🙁

the logo they presented had the whole VICA thing on it too... i think, or somewhere, cannot remember

i personally do prefer BPA's test, its more challenging... but im looking forward to the hands-on test at States for SkillsUSA. BPA i only got 3rd in regions, didn't get to advance to states. although last year i placed 1st region, 5th state, and 13th nation for the pc servicing and troubleshooting (BPA). as a junior. since we don't touch A+ curriculum or do anything revolving around it in networking this year, the junior from my school that took first in regions was more prepared than i was. i hope its like, real scenarios for the hands-on, and not something crappy. real testing.

I was going to join it in VT but was told we should join it just for the competition. Apparently there's more to it, but I never got a straight answer on what that extra part was. Seemed like community service, but I don't see how that fits in.

Oh wow....didnt think anyone else did this....

I went 3 years in my HS. Was a part of the drafting program and we always qualified for state (IL). Placed 2nd and 3rd in the 3d Visualization contest.....was a TON of fun. I loved the trip, and watching all the contests was a blast. Plus, there were tons of cuties there doing cosmopology! 😱
