woohoo! snowboarding and skiing season is here! My friends are heading out on the 9th, and I wanted to get my own set of gear. I've gone a couple times already by only rented, I think I should be able to go more often this coming year so it would be cheaper if I bought my own stuff.

Any suggestion on what's the best place? I know last year REI outlet had a crazy sale but dunno if it's dec. or next year.

i might suggest looking in stores for some models you like then buying online. evogear.com and backcountry.com and altrec.com are good starters. look for last years models.

REI can be very pricey if they're not having a sale.

I went on ebay and picked up a new set up, got some good deals
2006 (last years) Burton T6 $400 ($795 MSRP) Unused, still in the bag.
New Burton P1 Bindings $200 ($260 MSRP)
New Burton Hail Boots $190 ($220 MSRP)

I can't wait to try it out. I have had really good luck finding this sort of stuff on ebay in recent years.

You should be able to put together a decent set up for $500 or so. If you go for a used set up you could probably get board and bindings for 100-200 then add boots for around 100-150.
