Ok, I'm looking for some help on a ski trip for my GF and I. We are planning on taking Dec. 15 - 18 off. Were pretty tight on money so cheap is a good thing. We would need a hotel and ski lift tickets. Any help would be great.
Seriously though, where were you thinking of going? I have gone to Salt Lake City a few times and there is great skiing there, and it is not to bad as far as price.
The Denver area is has some world class resorts, Steamboat, Vail, Breckenridge, Keystone, Copper Mountain, however its a long drive from Texas and it is expensive. From experience hotels/resorts discount lift tickets ~15%.
Might want to look into Northern New Mexico, I've been there in summer and seen several resorts (possibly Taos).
Don't know about you but we are going to Keystone, Colo in Feb for 7 nights and our trip is the cheapest we've ever spent.
There are 5 of us and it will be $729/each and thats everything
$246- Lodging(2 bedroom condo within walking distance to the lift)
$220- Airfare non-stop flight from Southwest
$213- 4 day lift pass
$50- each for rental van.
---------
$729 each for a first class resort in Colo. Taxes included.
Whoa, I couldn't believe how cheap we got it for this time.
Usually we spend about $1000 each.
We lucked out on getting the lodging so cheap. $246/7 mights = $35 a night.
If you really want some great deals, take your days off just before Dec 15/16.
After those dates, the holiday rates start kicking in.
Like in Winter PArk, Colo, you 2 can get 4nights with lift tickets for $240/each before Dec 15.
Add in flight and rental car and its less than $600 per person.
I go skiing on the east coast every year with friends... its about $250/person, maybe $300 after lift tickets and rentals.
Canaan Valley West VA. Timberline and Canaan Ski Resorts. College week (first two weeks in jan) $10 lift tickets and $10 rentals. $600-800 for the house, $200 at costco and there is always at least 8 of us to the house...and its a 3-4 hour drive for us.
Well its actually going to be 4 of us but were going to get 2 rooms. I think were going to load up in my GF's friends car and split the gas. Her friend's parents go every year to CO I think so they may help us plan. Of course they probably don't worry about money much since her father is the president of the bank.
This is going to be our christmas present to each other so I want it to be a good time to remember.
I have been all over the place, Aspen, Vail, Keystone, Breckenridge, Jackson Hole, Big Sky, Tahoe, Salt Lake, german alps. However, the one place that I still love the best is Jackson Hole.
Smaller town, cheap digs, awesome skiing. My brother and I went there twice and we had a blast both times. No long lines, great runs.
Well, if you're planning to drive from Texas then Colorado seems like a logical choice.
Are you skiers or snowboarders? IME Crested Butte is snowboarder-heavy, and the punk kind that like to stop in lines 6 across blocking the slopes. Vail is perfection especially if you like powder (back bowls FTW) but pricey. I would also recommend Keystone/Breckenridge, very affordable and good skiing.
Salt Lake City has some awesome skiing and there are something like 9 or 10 different slopes within 45 minutes of each other. You can also stay in SLC to save on lodging if you don't mind the short drive every morning/evening. It's not a party paradise though being a Mormon state. SLC would be a much further drive for you as well.
Ya, my brother went up to Banff and he really loved it. I wish I could afford a trip up there though. Some of the pictures he brought back were awesome.
I think we may end up trying for Keystone, CO. As far as snowboarding and skiing. Three of us are snowboarders and my GF likes to ski.
