Hello to all,

I'm interested in purchasing a roof-mounted ski rack for a '96 Volvo that's still running in good condition. The problem is, I have no idea where to look for research on what makes a good product, or where to buy from, or even what a good deal is.

I'm looking for the ability to carry 1 snow board and 1 pair of skiis, although the more the better (depending on price increases, of course).

Please let me know if you have any experience with these products and have any shopping tips. Your help is much appreciated!

I've got a Yakima roof rack. It's pricey at initial purchase. However, I've used the same rack on my last three cars with minor 'n' inexpensive parts swaps. Also, it's flexible. I have used the ski/board attachment for winter boarding trips. I usually have four bike attachments for mountain biking so I can cram a bunch of friends in the car with their bikes on top. I also have a tandem bicycle attachment. My tandem would not be transportable by my car without it. The roof top boxes are handy too.

To find out what you would need from Yakima to fit your car, go here: http://www.yakima.com/Consumer/Step1.aspx

I usually purchase from Agees.com for pretty cheap new Yakima bits, or craigslist if I'm going cheap and have the time to wait until the thing I want pops up.

Thule has similar products to Yakima. I'm sure there are other solutions that are cheaper, but I've no information on them.
