OK, so yesterday I made a thread and you all recommended I go to a skate shop to buy a board.

Well, I did so, and got a pretty cool one and rode it for like five hours going around the block and stuff.

I couldn't help but notice the dirty looks I got though. You can skate around the neighborhood as long as your not grinding away curbs or anything, right?

Well I'm not a skater but I'd say fuck em' all. Not caring is part of being a skater, isn't it? :p - Unless they actually say something aggressive or tell you to get lost, don't have to worry about em.

You ever skate before buying the board (you just got)? I myself have been wanting to try out skate boarding lately. I'm kinda old for skating now it seems like (though only 22). I might give it a shot if I can find a decent skate board for $10 somewhere (though I'm sure someone will reply and say don't buy a crappy skateboard). I'd probably just end up hurting myself trying to skate.

I thought about getting a skateboard, but I just played more Tony Hawk instead.

I've never actually gotten dirty looks while skateboarding. Typically I've always been around people that knew me though. I haven't skated in years, I try to sometimes, but I get tired after like 15 minutes. Once you start getting into tricks that require you to jump a lot it really starts to burn if you're not in shape.

if you're using it for transportation, you're good to go, but when you start vandalizing and stuff....you're up to no good!

Get a long board, then nobody will give you the dirty look. Long board = for commute. Short board = up to no good.
