the slk 800 is double the price of the sk7 from overclockers.co.uk

is there much difference between them?

If you look here, the difference is VERY slight. Not worth it unless you're looking for everything possible out of your CPU.

i would say get the slk-800 cause it has more surface area and allows for better performance with a lower rpm fan
which means yur system won't be as loud

unless you really wanna save money

thanks for your replies.

was looking to make my system quieter - a thermalright and a ys-tech silent (20dba) fan seemed good. Not really planning on overclocking. Wellll, maybe from 2600+ to 2800+, just a bit....

was also going to get 3 other ys tech silent for the case, and control all four of them with a coolermaster aerogate II.

is this a good combination to lessen noise?

Anything below 30dba is pretty much silent with your case closed, i'd get a 30CFM fan at least, it'll provide you with a bit more security and headroom. :)

I've used both and my opinion is the SLK800 is just a wee better than the SK-7. Since the only price you can get for the SLK800 is double the SK7.. I suggest getting the SK-7. Unless money is not a problem of course.

I just made this same decision not too long ago. I chose the Sk-7. Why? Because the difference with the same fan would be no more than 2-3C really. I got the SK7 for 15 from SVC. They charge 30 for the SLK-800. Worth it? No. If you're gonna go for the slk-800, you might as well get the 900 and go all out.

Edit: Also, I love my Sk-7. I just upgraded from my AX-7 ( a sort of small upgrade you could say) but I already love it. It seems smaller and more sleek than my AX-7 (I love the thin fins) and it was't hard at all to install. The only thing I don't like, but like at the same time, is the fan clip system. They kept coming off as I was putting the fan on, but once in place, they are great. And not using screws is nice (the AX-7 has a crappy well of installing fans). I am already seeing the drop in temperature too.
