I just got an SK6+ for my computer! Wahoo, Thermalright rules--used their SK7 before). Anyways, after I ordered it, I checked to see what fans it supported (which I should have checked sooner, dumb Anik...dumb), and it was only rated to hold up to a 60mm fan. Well, I got it today, and I was able to fit on my 80mm 7000RPM vantec fan. :)

This thing is gonna keep my processor extremely cool. I will test it out, as soon as I get some help with mah video card (link if you can help--dun wanna screw anything up)

I've been using a 53Cfm 80mm Mechatronics fan on my sk6 as well. Initially I had bought the adapter but I decided not to use it after fitting the fan with the spring clamps. It is a tight fit though. The temp on my 2100+@2250Mhz doesn't go over 112F.

Well, as cool as this is, it's not working...

I started up my computer and the processor temp skyrockets to above 70C.

Why? It's not on backwards, I thought I may have put on too much thermal compund, but that's just fine...

So...... why?

its very easy, with the SK-6, to have a bad contact between the CPU die and the heatsink. one thing to try is to pull the heatsink "backwards" (away from the side you are clipping) while you are clipping it down. do this gently, obviously, but it should help you get a better contact, as the clip design sometimes placed the heatsink a little too far forward and with a little bit of an angle.

make sure you don't have the sk6 on wrong. i fried a 1Ghz tbird once by not paying attention. the clip and sink must be oriented the right way. the thumb/screw driver tab must be at the top (in relation to the socket) and the sink touching the lower part of the clip when installed. make sure that the machined recesses match the cpu socket/lock arm position. also, make sure that the wire clips don't hit any capacitors causing problems...

but if not, just clean it nicely with qtip (what i use lol)
Haha, I did the latter actually, didn't have any alcohol.

Anyways, here's a thought, I dun feel any air coming out of the fan (blowing away from the hs), it's definitely running, and at ~7000RPM, think this is a problem, any way to make it blow heat AWAY from the hs? Can I just flip it over or what?

Thanks,

~Aunix

edit- Okay, so I flipped the fan around so it blew heat away form the hs, it actually ran hotter. Oh well. Fun test I did. :)

An 80mm fan should be blowing fresh air down onto the SK6+ HS. About the only heatsinks that work with hot air being pulled up off the HS are the Alpha pin type heatsinks.

i think what was meant is that the goop that was preinstalled was replaced with something better.
