So I've been screwing around with my recent server setup and have decided to abandon WHS 2011 and switch to Win7 and reinstall Win7 on my desktop.

I'm going to move the server from the Fractal Array R2 to a LIAN LI PC-Q08B. It'll hold a 60gb SSD for OS, 2x3TB, & a LG BR Drive. After that I run out of internal SATA ports but was thinking about getting an eSATA to SATA cable and connecting that to a 1x1TB drive for backup storage (or make it into a external drive and use it for backups).

That said, what can I expect the average size a BR to be when ripped with MakeMKV? Will the BR rip faster on my E8400 or the E-350? DVDs seem to rip at the same speed on either platform which is why i ask.

I'd guess the e8400 will rip much faster, as the e-350 is pretty slow, but uses its graphics chip for most intensive things.

As far as size, I THINK a standard movie is like 10-15gb? I could be wrong though. This is pulling out all the extras and 10 different kinds of audio formats, so you save some space from teh disk (oh menus also), but I haven't done it very much yet. Pretty sure I ripped Hancock and it came out to 14gb, just as a test.

It varies from movie to movie. Anywhere from 12 to 35 gigs. Average I would say 20ish gigs. This is for just video uncompressed and DTS track.

Edit: Here's some sizes for me:

Alien: 21.6GB
Aliens: 26.2
Atonement: 20.6
Eternal Sunshine (HDDVD): 15.6
Kill Bill 1: 23.7
Kill Bill 2: 26.7
Bourne Identity (HDVD): 16.7
Sound of Music: 28.7
Toy Story 3: 18.3

+2...though i rip witht he HD audio track.

It des seem like more and more movies are creeping up in size. Not a bad thing just seems like my more recent rips have been 20gb+ for newer movies and older movies (leathel weapon quadrilogy) is more in the 15-20gb range.
