Hello there,

I'm a sophomore Industrial Engineering and will be going on co-op in the summer. I've heard that the Six Sigma Green Belt looks good on the resume so was thinking of doing it. I got my yellow belt and even though it feels like a lot of BS, I figure if getting the green belt helps, then why not?

My question is, there are quite a few vendors who are offering Six Sigma green belt courses. Do you guys know any courses with which you guys have had personal experience? I'm not sure how to narrow down which institution to go with.. Any ideas? I hope to get the belt by March latest.

I found this one: http://www.sixsigmaonline.org/...a-green-belt-training/ but not sure if its really gonna teach me anything for the $500 that I will be paying.

Thanks

The only problem with six sigma training is no one actually follows it. Having worked for Motorola, I can say if they followed six sigma, nothing would ever leave the factories.

i think it looks good if you use it in a project. i took a class where six sigma concepts were used in a group project. the experience came in handy when i job interviewed.

As mentioned in my original post, while I understand that its lame, its worth the effort if it gives me an edge over another job applicant for a co-op.. I could always give an example of a project at school in which I tried to apply it or something.

I got my white belt Lean-6-sigma cert. It was largely a joke, it doesn't really matter until you get a greenbelt in terms of what jobs are looking for.

I always laughed my ass off about SS. At one of my old jobs we hired 2 SS "consultants". What a waste of money. Sadly, companies give credence to it, so it's a nice feather in the cap.

Yup.. that why I'm considering the greenbelt.

I'm required to get my greenbelt in lean/six sigma, my company has their own program for it. Its mostly buzzwords but there are a few good things. Some of the lean methodology is pretty useful in a production environment.

without having applied it in any actual business situation I don't see it being valuable at all. Its like another class....just theory.
