That sucks—I hope she gets the help she needs. Probably doesn’t help when your dad’s colleagues are trying to turn your home state into a hellscape for LGBTQ kids.

That's sad. Given what a flaming asshole her dad is, I bet his family hears about it all the time. Being constantly reminded (and ostracized to a degree I bet) that you have a piece of shit for a parent is probably very hard for a kid.

I hope her father treats her better than a standard Texan in need of help. Standing up for his family isn't something he's known for, good luck girl.

I hope she gets help and recovers.

But, lets be honest, this is likely all because of the raging asshole that her father is. It can't be a good thing for a child to know that basically the entirety of the human race that has ever heard of your father hates him with the fury of a thousand suns. I fully expect him to not only continue his smarmy ways, but to double down and somehow use this situation as a political tool as well. Because that's the kind of shit-bag he really is. Oh, fuck Rafael Cruz.

Article says that Caroline Cruz "came out as bisexual" last year. That and who her father is should provide some possible insight about this. There is no schadenfreude in this one. I hope everything turns out OK for her.
Oh my. Wish that girl all the best.

God this is horrible. You know that piece of shit is going to try to pray away the gay and guilt her over how this is a phase and how the woke media brainwashed her into having homosexual desires.

She should move up to Canada. Probably can still claim Canadian citizenship though Rafael renounced his.

No he's going to pay thousands upon thousands to get her medical help and checked into cognitive therapy programs that 10's of thousands of kids *NEED* access to but most families can't afford. And then go on public TV and spew stupid shit out of his mouth about *whatever stupid GOP talking point*.

And then tell his daughter the therapist is full of shit and brainwashing her into accepting gay people.

14 year olds do stupid shit. Unless I have clear and direct evidence that Ted Cruz is a shit father I'm not going to say anything against him. You can be a shit person and a great father just like you can be a shit father and (publicly) perceived as a great person.

His daughter may have demons that have nothing to do with him and were not put there by him.

Hope this kid gets some help and sees a brighter road ahead of her.

And this is really the conversation. I don't think he is single handedly responsible for this. Even households that embrace their kids for who they are face these issues. Where Ted holds responsibility is he enables if not outright supports the marginalization of vulnerable communities/people. He encourages people to hate and discriminate his daughter.

Will he change his tune publicly? Probably not. He's a narcissistic shithead that only seems interesting in bettering himself.

He might not be fully responsible, but the lack of support from family members, the school, and the community definitely contributes to this sort of thing. And family support is the most important thing for someone like that, and there's no way they're getting that at home.

I wish her well. Her personal problems shouldn't be aired for our entertainment or for trying to score cheap political points. She is a 14 year old, and I'm sure the publicity is not going to help her.

In unrelated news, Ted Cruz is a piece of shit in a pantheon of Republican shitheads.

You might be on to something. But it can’t be good to have such a moral coward for a father. I’ve heard he is the most despised man in the Senate.

This was written with only the OP and post 2 that I quoted. Again I failed to post it.

This is where I'm at. He's not 100% the cause (I'm sure there's some general teen angst/whatever in there as well), but when you've taken the positions he has in public against the group the daughter apparently falls into, when you're a constant very public embarrassment, and when you've already thrown your kids under the bus for the cancun thing ... Yeah, a large part of this is on you and you're most likely a really shitty father (last part about blaming the kids). There's a reason that almost everyone hates the fucker. But I'm sure he just flips a switch when they're singing XMas carols around the fire place ...

IIRC, there were also some previous reports about his kids responding not so favorably to some of his antics on social media. Have to dig that up though.

Wait, not "pray the gay away?" Turn her over to some cult christian religious group to "fix her"?

While that thinking might be sound and good in theory, its also willfully ignorant. He literally fucking blamed one of his daughters for why he ran to Mexico when Texans were dying after the state was unprepared for a harsh winter due to his inept representation. Its pretty goddamned apparent he's both a shit person publicly and also privately. Now, that doesn't mean there might not be even worse fathers out there (speaking personally, I've come to realize that absentee fathers turned out to possibly be the best fathers I could have expected), but its pretty safe to say he's not a good father.

I'm confident in saying, even if he might not have "put those demons there" (eye roll, sorry that's a stupid way to frame this), he damn sure has worked to agitate them, as he's done for children all over. Its a shame, and hopefully she gets some good real help and even better if that causes him to reflect on his behavior after personally seeing someone whom he hopefully does love and care about enough, to see how he is negatively affecting people.

I can also predict that's not what will happen and in fact much more likely he'll blame trans people and he'll double down for the 50th time on pushing horrible ideology and blame liberals and a whole bunch of other nonsense instead of taking even a shred of responsibility to his daughter. I'd love to be wrong.

Yeah I don't think it's a good thing that this is news. We don't know the details here, nor should we. We don't even know if the injuries are related to suicide. Prevalence of nonsuicidal self-injury has been estimated up to 46.5% in adolescents (https://www.frontiersin.org/articles/10.3389/fpsyg.2017.01946/full).

Hoping she gets good treatment and that it isn't undercut by the publicity surrounding it.
