I had intense back pain from sitting in my old chair, and the Aeron seriously eliminated the pain immediately. The main thing that sets it apart from most cheap chairs is that the back moves independently from the seat. Cheap, plush chairs usually have the back and seat attached at a fixed angle.

There are mid-range chairs with that feature too though, including the Herman Miller Equa 2 that I saw at Costco this weekend for $300 and some odd dollars. I sat in their display model, and the fixed arm rests felt too close for me. I realized after I left the store that the display model must have been an A sized chair. Size does matter.
