Sitting in on a college class without paying for it.

little background on myself. I have a B.S. in comp. engineering already. However, I graduated 4 years ago but finally, have the time to go back for a Masters.

The problem is I do not remember anything about programming. I registered for a freshman undergrad intro programming class I am taking as a refresher course. After having the first lecture and lab sections yesterday, I'm thinking about dropping it and just attending the lectures. That's what I'm really interested in and I can do the labs on my own to get myself back up to speed.

The class is about 65 people with the lab sections about 20 people each. If I drop the class but still attend the lectures, could I get in trouble if I got caught? or is it ok to just be there and listen but I'm obviously not going to get a grade, credit for the class, etc.

Thanks

Usually they call that auditing a class. I do not know if when you audit you have to pay though.

I even sat in and taken the midterms and I notice they are a lot easier when you don't have the pressure of having to worry about having a failing grade on your record.

I do it all the time here at my school... then again, we are allowed (and ever encouraged) to attend any class that we wish, aside from exams. I doubt the professor would care.

Big school, big class, who the F is ever going to notice? If it's a small class, then no I wouldn't do it, not without asking the prof.

Yeah, it really doesn't matter, it won't count to your transcript and you're not entitled to take the midterm/final. That's about it, and chances are no one will care.

I allow students to audit the classes I teach all the time. Professors usually don't mind.

I've done it before for classes I've dropped and planned to take at a later time. The prof always said it was ok, and and always helped when I took the class over.
