Hi all,

Just wondering if there are any other sites to find used cars besides cars.com, cargurus.com, autotrader.com, and edmunds.com?

Also, do dealers still use NADA for used car valuations? I know they are dirty, evil places to do business with, but in trying to trade in my 2010 Prius I got what I thought was a low ball offer and in telling the dealer my NADA value was much higher I got the, "Those books aren't region specific, we don't use them".

Thanks!

You're much better off selling the vehicle privately if you can, and then using that money as a down payment toward your vehicle. Trade-in pricing is almost always scammy as hell.

I don't think any dealers really use NADA guides at all, unless it's a poor, broke dealer that cannot afford a subscription to what dealers really use, the Black Book. You may see copies of the NADA guide laying around, but it's only for show. In reality, the Black Book is the Bible for car valuation.

As Jumpem alluded to, auction prices set the values and the Black Book, published weekly, uses auction results to set values. And these auctions they use are NOT accessible to the public, dealer only, like Mannheim auctions.

I know and I guess that's what I'll do. I just didn't think I was going to get the low, low ball offer.

How do they value 2 year old cars? Surely those aren't going to auction.

Thanks for the link!
