Can people recommend sites where I can go to buy and customize a barebone system?

Do you mean customize a complete system ( = Dell, Alienware, HP, iBuyPower, EndPCNoise)?

Or do you mean some company that lets you pick parts for a partial system then will build that partial system for you ( = no one I know of)?

some company where I can go online and customize a barebones system, and spec exactly what I want, with no software, no monitor or keyboard required, etc.

EggHead used to do it, but I couldnt find it anymore.

Mwave.com will let you select your mb/cpu/memory and will assemble and test this combo for 10$, continue shopping and buy case/hd/video and sound cards. Or call them to see if they will assemble it all.

I have bought, for work, mb/cpu/memory bundles from them many times over the years, and never had a problem. They send in all the warranties, carefully cut out from the retail packages. Recommend them highly.

A lot of companies do this, TigerDirect I think does this.

In your case why not just buy the components and assemble them. Assembling the components is the easiest part of the build and often retailers will sell you motherboard/CPU combos with the CPU already installed.

Where most people have trouble with a build is the BIOS setup and the Windows Installation process and making sure they have the correct drivers.
