I gave it an exception and have it installed, but still get the same message.

Windows xp Pro
sp2.

Thank you

Two questions.

[*]I'm getting the same thing. Is Anandtech doing this on purpose or is there a problem?

[*]Will Google Toolbar do the trick?

The ads here are Flash so it's on purpose. No Google Toolbar won't do anything.

You only get money if we actually click the ads. If people are so disgusted that they don't click the ads, then why does it matter?

Don't you think that a pop-up EVERY time you open a page is a little overkill? Is the point to annoy them enough so they'll just break down and install the damn thing?

No problem. I don't read adds in magazines or watch TV commercials either.

Popup blocking, adblocking, and ad-ware removal are here to stay (along with PVRs etc), perhaps instead of complaining people should learn to adapt.

I'm sure you click and read every annouying little add that's forced in your face when you're trying to help people and find information on every site you visit don't you?

I do appreciate the AT Forums for their community spirit, however 998 out of 1000 of my posts are answers to other people's problems, questions, or concerns. If you'd like me to read (not click) 16 or 18 ads for the questions I've asked over the years then just say the word, I'm sure it'll result in a huge influx to your coffers.

If you'd rather not have people here ignoring the ads while they answer questions do you really think the forums and community will last?

It seems kinda funny that the webmaster of a technology site is offended by people's use of technology.

Can't say I'm complaining about Flash ads since I don't have Flash installed, and my browser doesn't bug me about it 🙂

The popup in this case is simply a side-effect, to my knowledge anyway, of having a Flash component somewhere in the page. As every page has a Flash-based ad, you're going to get a popup to install flash. The ad itself is not causing the popup, at least not directly. If Flash was installed, there'd be no popup.

I will allow ads to show that aren't distracting or irritating. Those damn things that have sound effects, or that shake, or blink - they last as long as it takes for me to right-click and select Block. Other than that, hey, go ahead and advertise.

I've never clicked a banner add in my entire i-Life.
You'd probably get more money from people like me if you brought back the subscriber service. I'd be more than happy to pay $5/mo for access to this site.

I use Firefox when I am on my PC 99% of the time and see the adds here on Anandtech. They really don't bother me at all. I know I could fix firefox to stop them but why? Then it's all blank and looks bad.
Flash is needed on a lot more sites than just Anandtech. I have no problem having Flash installed. POPUPS bug me but even IE with SP2 blocks most of them. I have even clicked on a few of the adds here when one caught my eye.
I don't really understand why people here complain about the adds over and over when Jason has explained why they have to be there. Live with it. This is one HECK of a site and I am all for anything that keeps Anandtech and Anandtech Forums alive!!

On OSX I use Safari and Firefox and both show the adds and have Flash installed. I never have a problem there either.

i don't even really notice the ads anymore. even the sidebar doesn't bother me much these days. i'm still annoyed by other things, but i find that dwelling on them doesn't really help get them fixed.

Good lord I remember the flames about that sidebar to the left. I've never seen that many people on a computer forum be that upset.

Anyway, bring back subscriptions!

I feel bad for using Adblock sometimes, but if there were moving adds on the page and I had no way to get rid of them I would probably stop coming here. They're that annoying. Not on principle or anything, I just wouldn't enjoy it enough.

If you want, I'll spend 5 minutes a week using IE and clicking on lots of adds, would that make up for it? That or bring back subscriptions. If we have the power to eliminate the annoying stuff you can't seriously expect us not to use it; there has to be a nonagravating way for us to support the site.
