.sit extention

I found some downloads on the internet that ends in .sit extension. Is this for windows? or Mac? and i could I expand it?

It is for stuffit file compression, it is pretty standard for Mac but not really used by PC's. I'm pretty sure they have a free unstuff utility for PC though, do a google on "stuffit lite" and follow that.
