Her car was totaled... She basically somehow crossed over the median and hit another driver head-on. That's all I know about the accident really. In a sense we are "lucky" she only hit a small car (based on the damage and all my dad couldnt believe she made it out alive) instead of a truck or semi. She'd most likely be gone otherwise. The car she drove (Ford Escort) didnt have an airbag so she took on all the damage. The other driver was released from the hospital already so from that I can assume that physically they are fine.

She broke her femur, fibula, wrist, back and vertebrae... her lung was punctured slightly so she has a tube in her chest... she had surgery on her leg yesterday which went well (rods/pins put in)... and today they checked out her back/vertebrae to determine if she needed surgery or not. She does. Link for the surgery she is gonna have on tuesday or wednesday That's all I really know about her physical health-wise.

When she finally gets released from the hospital, she's going to need a lot of help moving about. The broken wrist and leg are both on her right side. She's going to have to use a special walker that goes on her arm so it's a good thing I have Xmas break coming up and that im home next semester for my internship for school.

Just seems that stuff like this always happens around the holidays for my family. :(

Edit: She had the surgery (was like 14 hours long) and everything went well. She should hopefully be up and walking a little on Friday afternoon they projected! I'm so relieved that it went well though. Thank you all for your thoughts/prayers/get well's... They helped.:)

On to the recovery process!

Update February 6, 2006
I know I promised pictures a while ago but it's been a busy couple of months and time just flew by. As for my sister, we just found out some good news regarding her leg. She can now use 50% of her weight on it, which is better than the alternative of having to have a bone graft done on it. Her spirit's up despite this recovery process being brutally long. She will soon lose her back brace and has already lost the cast on her wrist.

Here's the pics of her car:

Pic 3

That's just from hitting a small car. Imagine if it was a truck or semi. :(

That is so bad I will just wish her luck in her recovery instead of asking for pics.

Yeah between the surgery on either tues/wed (which im freaking out about) and the entire recovery process it's going to be hell for her. Feel bad. She's been through a lot already (had ovarian cancer about 7-8 years ago... had to go through chemo and everything and is fully recovered from that) so I wish this wasnt happening. :(

I hope she's alright. I think she's very lucky to have survive the crash, those older Escort aren't very safe for the occupants.

I hope everything goes well with the surgery and and that she has a quick and full recovery. Glad to hear that you're going to be able to help her out some when you're home.

Thanks. The recovery process will be hard but I know she can make it through alright. She'll want to get back to teaching her jr. high students right away. (She's going on 26 in December)

Junior high kids? Boy, she'd better wait until she's feeling pretty fit to deal with a group as lively as the ones at that age. I've taught junior high before and a day with them can really wear you out! Tell her I said I feel for her and appreciate what she's doing. :)

Well she teaches choir, so she tends to get the better students, but yeah at times they can be handfuls. She loves teaching though. But yeah you have a point with dealing with those over-active kids :p I remember how I was back then.
