Her car was totaled... She basically somehow crossed over the median and hit another driver head-on. That's all I know about the accident really. In a sense we are "lucky" she only hit a small car (based on the damage and all my dad couldnt believe she made it out alive) instead of a truck or semi. She'd most likely be gone otherwise. The car she drove (Ford Escort) didnt have an airbag so she took on all the damage. The other driver was released from the hospital already so from that I can assume that physically they are fine.
She broke her femur, fibula, wrist, back and vertebrae... her lung was punctured slightly so she has a tube in her chest... she had surgery on her leg yesterday which went well (rods/pins put in)... and today they checked out her back/vertebrae to determine if she needed surgery or not. She does. Link for the surgery she is gonna have on tuesday or wednesday That's all I really know about her physical health-wise.
When she finally gets released from the hospital, she's going to need a lot of help moving about. The broken wrist and leg are both on her right side. She's going to have to use a special walker that goes on her arm so it's a good thing I have Xmas break coming up and that im home next semester for my internship for school.
Just seems that stuff like this always happens around the holidays for my family.
Edit: She had the surgery (was like 14 hours long) and everything went well. She should hopefully be up and walking a little on Friday afternoon they projected! I'm so relieved that it went well though. Thank you all for your thoughts/prayers/get well's... They helped.
On to the recovery process!
Update February 6, 2006
I know I promised pictures a while ago but it's been a busy couple of months and time just flew by. As for my sister, we just found out some good news regarding her leg. She can now use 50% of her weight on it, which is better than the alternative of having to have a bone graft done on it. Her spirit's up despite this recovery process being brutally long. She will soon lose her back brace and has already lost the cast on her wrist.
Here's the pics of her car:

That's just from hitting a small car. Imagine if it was a truck or semi.
