$2/100 every payday or $20/100 for the life of the loan?
$35/100 for the life of the loan, 6 months.
$330/1100, 12 months.

The paydays here are $15/100 every 2 weeks. Our new state laws have severely crimped their industry because they refused to self regulate. Most won't survive.

Her daughter struggles to make $150 on many nights and has to pay for transportation and door fees. She OFTEN loses money and goes home crying.

And who said anything about the end of the month? She gets her check tomorrow (Friday). The overdraft would have happened in her account just as my deposit cleared in mine this morning/last night except that the landlord never cashed our rent check so we were OK either way.

And the $100 she owes me is her half of utilities. She didn't borrow it. We've been room-mates for three years and she has never been unable to pay me her share so there is no reason to think she's sliding over an auto-payment that was happening a single-day too soon for her. Granted, no one should be living paycheck to paycheck, but many people are. Obviously, I still am too or else I would have been able to help.

She shouldn't be asking you to bail her out repeatedly.
Looks like there is more I need to correct. Repeatedly? I haven't bailed her out once. The $100 she owes me is for the shared utilities (cable, Internet, electricity, etc). It's her half and she is actually insisting that I take $100 even though utilities weren't that high.

What did she do for the 20+ years she wasn't in college? Man I couldn't imagine graduating at age 41, in this economy, and with a boat load of student loans. I wish her the best.
City college and disability. UCSD is pretty prestigious, so of course she jumped at the opportunity.

And if that's your sister in that video, tell her to sell the damn dogs, the couch and the guy's watch.

My $12 Wal-mart watch someone gave me after compulsively buying on clearance (probably under $5)? ;) I only wear it because I can't check the time on my cell phone while riding my motorcycle (primary transportation).

1) tell her daughter to get into the web cam business she can make an absolute killing and doesn't have to touch creepy dudes in person

2) Why does she have an auto-pay when she has nothing in the bank. Seems retarded to me.

3) White trash soap opera confirmed.......living with sister and her stripper daughter......ughhhhhhh failllllllllllllll

Ok, I reread the thread and am still unclear on something. Is she asking advice for herself or is she asking YOU to take out a short-term loan? If the latter, why can't she take out the loan herself and leave you out of it?

1) She's pretty flat-chested and would not be able to compete with Internet hotties unless some pervert wants to pretend that she's 10 years old or something. Thanks for making me say that on the Internet. Hopefully she'll never search this.

2) Almost all utilities and such encourage auto-pay so that you don't miss a due date but have no way to cancel them less than a few days before it's due. This one, in particular, is a cell phone bill. People set up auto-pay for credit cards, phone bills, electricity bills, etc. Some places actually give incentive to auto-pay or disincentive by charging "rush," "service," or "by-phone" fees for payments by check, phone, or credit card.

3) Futile attempt to justify original assumption... CONFIRMED. Her daughter has been on her own since she was a teenager and is now 27 years old. I moved to San Diego because I got a motorcycle as my primary transportation and she needed a temporary roommate to get out of student housing and get pets. I work for a company with offices around the world and was easily able to transfer (11.5 years with the company). It was the perfect opportunity for me to get away from the East coast and broaden my experiences for a little while with minimal risk.

She's my half-sister so we were not raised together and function well as roommates. Just because you don't get along with your sibling doesn't mean anything. For what it's worth, I will be moving back to GA later this year. I never intended to stay forever as I have much closer family on the east coast including my twin brother and mother. I may actually go stay at my half-brother's place in WV while he and his girlfriend spend months in NC waiting for an organ transplant (he's had problems with vandals and needs a house-sitter).

And before you say anything about siblings with multiple fathers=white trash, their father died before my twin brother and I were born. Hell, my father is dead now too. We were all born inside of wedlock. My half brother and sister were born in the '60s while my twin brother and I were born in the '80s. The family has lived all over the country (and outside the country). My earliest memories were living in the Virgin Islands. My father died in Costa Rica. My sister was born in Hawaii and spent time in Italy. My brother was born in Puerto Rico. My grandmother was born in Mexico (to American parents) and lived in England. My mother was born in D.C and went to school in Switzerland. Point: We aren't a bunch of white-trash rednecks. Explanation: My family built the first radio station in Hawaii long before it was a state and also the first in USVI, British VI, Puerto Rico, etc. My grandmother is known to all of us by her radio personality name. It was all before my time but it still means we have roots all over and we routinely follow up on those roots. When I go back to GA or WV this Fall, she's planning to move to St. Croix USVI to take a teaching position.

She can and that was the intention. Me doing it only came up as a way to save $25 with the referral bonus.

Our new state laws have severely crimped their industry because they refused to self regulate. Most won't survive.

That happened here too. My wife managed a couple shops until her employer folded in this state.

Payday loan companies can actually provide a valuable service for people in dire straits, who've had unforeseen expenses. And it really should be pretty much the last option; no friends or family, nothing to pawn, maxed out cards and can't get a new line of credit, etc...

Payday loan companies take on huge risk, because the people taking those loans are quite likely to be unable to pay them back, hence the absurd rates.

IMO, the payday loan industry was ripe for failure because of factors from both sides of the counter.

* Shops won't self regulate, as mentioned. Tools are available to do the reference checks, credit checks, look at the customer's history, check with other payday loan companies, etc....but they often don't out of sheer laziness. There do exist customers that even payday loan shops should turn away, otherwise it's a guaranteed bad debt loss for the shop. My wife often turned away customers, and managers from other stores wondered how she kept her bad debt numbers under control.

* Many customer's don't have any control or ethics at all. They'll lie, cheat, scam and everything else. Borrow from one payday loan shop, just to roll over their loans with half-a-dozen others, etc, etc... It's a no-win situation if the customer goes in to the process essentially with the intent to fail.

IMO, the payday loan concept isn't quite the demon it's made out to be, but both shitty proprietors and customers sets the whole thing up for failure.

1) flat girls are very "in" right now for that girl next door look. She should really look into it. The money that flies around on there is crazy.

2) It doesn't matter if they encourage autopay. if you are poor its not for you. case in point - this thread.

---------This is anecdotal but I pay almost all my bills online through the companies website whom I owe and none of them charge a fee. The only exception being my mortgage which tacks on $6 because they are allowing me to do direct transfer from another banks checking account to the mortgage account.

-----------Cell phone bills are not a necessity. Tell her to pawn something or be late.

3) ....whatever you say.

If you are poor, you also can't afford late fees for forgetting to submit a particular payment. That risk is multiplied by all the bills having different due dates throughout the month.

Also, how can you choose to "be late" on an auto-payment that has already been submitted? Also, it's already been dealt with. No pay-day loan, no borrowing, no cash-advance, no pawning, no credit card, no overdraft protection: The landlords happened to be out of town and didn't cash the rent check right away so we had enough in there for the cell phone bill. I have my money today and can cover the rent shortfall until she has hers tomorrow. It solved itself.
