Yes if you get the extended warranty from HP then its the same either way, if you weren't getting it costco would still give you a 2 year warranty (they have it on all pc's) through them, and they have a 90 day return policy (not questions asked as far as I know, used to be 6months and before that it had no expiration).

oh ok, i opted against the 12 cell because my sis said she probably would not use it.

I may actually get the fingerprint reader, it is pretty cheap (25 more), and not a bad investment. I mean if she doesn't use it fine, but i know she would like it for goofy things like facebook, and u made a good point about the computer being stolen.

Buy through CostCo, that way you don't have to deal with HP's half-assed apathetic excuse for consumer warranty service except as an absolute last resort. :p

HP has deals all the time on dv6000t and dv2000t. You can configure a dv2000t with all those bells and whistles for about $1000. Only thing is that its a 14in screen instead of 15.4.

Operating System Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium (32-bit)
Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) 2 Duo T5300(1.73GHz/2MB L2Cache)
Display 14.1" WXGA BrightView Widescreen (1280x800)
Graphics Card 128MB NVIDIA(R) GeForce(R) Go 7200
Personalization FREE Upgrade: HP Imprint Finish/Microphone/Webcam
Memory 40% off upgrade from 1GB (2 Dimm) to 2GB (2 Dimm)!
Hard Drive FREE Upgrade from 80GB 5400RPM to 120GB 5400RPM!!
Primary CD/DVD Drive DVD/CD-RW Combo Drive
Networking Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network w/Bluetooth
TV & Entertainment Experience No TV Tuner w/remote control
Primary Battery 12 Cell Lithium Ion Battery

Total: $1,098.99

If you dont want bluetooh you can take it off and save a couple of bucks as well.

I think 14" screen maybe a better choice. She might not regret it now but smaller is better if she did lug it around town.
Plus 14" and 15.4" have the same resolution.

Get GMA 950 or x3100...a bit easier on the battery.

dude get the dv2000t. i haven't been on the site but maybe there's a dv2500 now. i have the dv2000t. believe me, the 14" is gonna be much cuter and everything for her, easier to carry around, lighter. there's no negatives for her going with it. NONE. no decent dedicated video card? not like she'll need one. believe me, it's a MUCH better investment. and have her get bluetooth and a webcam. i regret not getting these upgrades and with her budget, there's nothing wrong with adding them
